So you want to come to Peru, volunteer and make a difference right? But surely you also want to relax and have fun while you are at it... of course you are not going to come 1000´s of miles across the ocean to have all work and no play!
Here in Peru life is lived in the moment and as much as possible we try and enjoy each moment we have! Hence the fact that across the whole of Peru and Latin America you will find each town has its fiestas and its many different ways to enjoy life.
Along the coast, this means two things: salsa and surf! Not to mention bonfires on the beach, sampling the amazing cuisine that Peruvians are so justly proud of, so many beautiful places to visit, culture to absorb and the simple joy of bumping into people in the street and stopping for a chat.
Let’s face it, even when you are volunteering, you’re still on holiday. That’s why we offer exciting alternatives like salsa, surfing, sandbaording and short trips out and about to help you chill out and relax during in stay in Peru.
It is said that Latin people are good at dancing because the movements of the dances are very flowing and exotic and people here practice it all the time at salsotecas (like a disco but with lots of salsa music) or a normal Peña.
Peru is the perfect place to learn some sexy latin dancing like Salsa, Meringue or Cumbia! We offer classes in Huanchaco with Karen - an experienced teacher that will have you moving in no time! Classes are around 10 soles for 1-2 hour class - you can have a private class or go with your friends.
Surfamérica
Chicho Huamanchumo is our surf instructor who can guide you if you do not have any or enough experience on the waves. He has a surf shop in Huanchaco Muchik surf school. He is also an artist who thinks that the only reason to surf is to have fun and to be in contact with the Mother sea (Mamacocha). Check out the school's website www.escueladetablamuchik.com
There might be thousands of better surfers than him, but none of them can transmit to you as good a vibe and as enthusiastic a view of a chilled out life on the waves as Chicho does. Our Profesurf has some discounts for volunteers and Spanish students (see more info here)
Sanddía
Huacachina, approximately 13 hours from Trujillo, is a popular travel
destination in Peru because of its gigantic sand dunes. Sandboarding fans can plan to make the trip to Huacachina, and/or while studying or volunteering in Trujillo take advantage of another sandboarding spot called Duna Santa Domingo, only a half hour away. In the near future Espaanglisch plans to offer day trips to Duna Santa Domingo for only 30 soles (25 soles for Espaanglisch volunteers), which will include transportation, equipment and instruction. Another unique and fun activity to do while you are studying or volunteering with us!

One of the greatest things that Peru can offer you is its food. Peruvian food is a combination of Spanish and Andean food with some influences from African and Arab cuisine. The coast offers a great variety of fish and shellfish which makes for an interesting combination of dishes, but the most famous is Cebiche: fish marinated in lime, onion, salt, and chilli.
Imagine having the finest Peruvian dishes in the comfort of your own home, being able to impress your friend and family with fabulous new receipes or simply knowing how to cook something other than just pasta. KFCuy
Cuy (also known as guinea pig) is a delicacy in Peru and deeply rooted in Andean culture. It is believed that cuy were domesticated in Peru over 7000 years ago and there is direct evidence of same as early as 900 BC, long before anyone in the West decided to keep guinea pigs as pets. Today Peruvians commonly raise cuy in their homes purely for their culinary pleasure. As long as you can get past the Western ´guinea pigs are pets´ mentality, your trip to Peru will not be complete without a sampling. For 25 soles (22 soles for Espaanglisch volunteers), you will receive a demonstration on how cuy is prepared, as well as the meal itself. Fried cuy, potatoes and chicha morada (a traditional drink made from purple corn), is a delicious and truly Peruvian meal that you are sure to enjoy!
